Set in the U.S. Virgin Islands, this was the getaway that I certainly needed. It made me want to go to St. John ASAP! The title says it’s set in winter, but they don’t mention anything winter-y at all. Really the only winter thing about it is that it is set in January and the death of Russ was on New Years’ Eve. All in all, this is the beachiest of beach reads! Set on the island of St. John, the reader falls in love with the Carribean just like the characters. This is ultimately a family drama with the mystery of their father’s death and his secret family. I really enjoyed the characters- which I think is what Hilderbrand does best. She gives each character depth and nuance and this was no exception. Everyone involved has mixed and conflicting feelings about losing someone they loved and thought they knew. I am SO excited that this is a trilogy! This one ends on a cliffhanger, so I am eager to read the next one. Also, as a romance enthusiast, WHO TF is Ayers going to end up with ? I’ve never read a love triangle with two brothers in it before, but I am very curious to see how that plays out.
