None of This Is True

This book is bonkers. What a page turner. I couldn’t put it down it was so interesting! Or was it? Maybe that’s not true. Idk what to even take away from this story except to never talk to anyone or let anyone stay with you ever again unless there’s been a hefty screening process.

This wasn’t the best story I’ve ever read but it was sure entertaining. I found myself totally pulled in and had a lot of fun with the suspense of wanting to know what would happen next. I was in a bit of a reading slump where nothing could hold my attention and this was the palette cleanser I needed! It reminds me of Verity by Colleen Hoover but I definitely enjoyed this one more.
The part that bothered me though was that Josie was victim blamed for Walter’s crimes… just because he was supposedly a good dad didn’t cancel out the fact that he was a big time felon creep. As a counselor who currently works with kids who have survived sexual abuse, it’s really hard for me to see past what a crime it was that Walter got away with dating Jose when she was a minor and he was in his forties. I see how that trauma influenced Josie and her deicisions. It definitely seems like there’s a pathology there but it’s hard for me to not empathize with Josie and what she went through. It does not excuse her crimes but I didn’t like how everyone blamed her for going after Walter because he was FORTY he could definitely have resisted.
