Preventing and Responding To Child Trauma

April is Child abuse awareness month! As a children’s therapist who specializes in child abuse trauma, I want to share books that can be helpful in both educating kiddos and prevent abuse from happening and how to talk about trauma if something does happen.

My Body Belongs to Me is a great way to start a conversation with kiddos on consent and body safety! A Terrible Thing Happened can be helpful to talk about trauma and how it can affect us.

No Drama Discipline is a great resource no matter what but after trauma, kids can sometimes have “bad behavior” and this is a great tool with different strategies to keep things from escalating.

None of these books are typically what I post about but knowledge and books are power!

We can’t control everything that happens to kiddos, but we can do our best to educate them  and talk to them about what to do if they ever feel unsafe and continue to bring awareness to the issue.
