Romance Books with the Best Banter

In the romance genre, there are many tropes. I personally love enemies- to -lovers or master and apprentice the most. But what I like the most even in those dynamics is good banter. I can get on board with even a friends- to- lovers trope as long as they have the fun banter. There are many books out there that attempt the rizz-y back and forth, but few make me laugh out loud and make me giddy for the couple, and the ones that do are the ones that stick out and are the most fun and memorable for me.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

This is where it all started for me-Harry and Ginny’s banter is where I first realized my affinity for the trope. Ginny is hilarious and the movies didn’t do her justice.

The Simple Wild

I love this whole series for so many reasons, but the biggest is the banter between the leads, Calla and Jonah. Their battle of the wits made me laugh out loud multiple times and made their sincere moments all the sweeter.

Book Lovers

Emilly Henry writes the most consistely solid banter. All of her books have good back and forth between its leads, but Book Lovers makes me laugh the most.

Wild Eyes and Wild Love

Elsie Silver also consistently writes great banter in her many books, but these two made me laugh the most.

The Bridge Kingdom

Lara and Aren are hilarious in a unique way. Lara is really dry and Aren has a great sense of humor. There’s a lot of political intrigue in this series and Lara and Aren are really different but their banter/chemistry is one of my favorites.

Fourth Wing

Violet and Xaden have some good banter, but honestly- it’s the dragons that are the comedy stars in this series.

A Court of Mist and Fury

Feyre throwing the shoe at Rhysand is one of my favorite scenes. Some top notch flirting in this one.

Funny Feelings

Farley is hilarious. She and Meyer proved to me that friends to lovers can be fun, if the leads have great banter. And they do.
