Bridgerton

This is a personal rankings of the Bridgerton books by Julia Quinn. I also love the show. However, the best of the show is hands down Queen Charlotte. What a delight. I loved the book as well but thought the chemistry between India Amarteifio and Cory Mylchreest are what make it incredible.

1. In It’s In His Kiss, Hyacinth is now my favorite Bridgerton sibling and this book has the best plot of the whole series. Hyacinth has strong opinions and isn’t afraid to share them. Even though Gareth makes choices that INFURIATED ME he came around and grew into being a lovely and supportive partner. My favorite book in the whole series!

2.This is a close second favorite for me. This has more depth than the rest of the series! I don't say that disparagingly, I love this series- this book just had a little more power to it. Loved this! Francesca is such a strong character and I really appreciated the evolved story line concerning fertility. Michael was a littttttle pushy with her at first but once he felt more confident in the relationship he chilled out. The 2nd epilogue is so sweet! Def one of my favorite books in the series! It's a close tie with It's in His Kiss.

3.This is basically The Sound of Music minus 5 kids and the singing. Loved this one! Interested to see how they do it in the show since Eloise is a bit more headstrong in the show. I hope they still do this plot!

4.Justice for Sophie and Benedict's story getting pushed back when it should be season 3! This was a cute retelling of Cinderella. I did think Benedict was kind of a douche to her at times, particularly when he didn’t get his way. Also, Sophie punching her stepmother was a bit extreme?! I love Sophie but why’re we punching people?! Her stepmother was awful but jeez. Even with those caveats, I was still charmed by this.

5.Kantony forever!! I actually liked the book even more than season 2 of the show. I liked that in the book, Kate and Anthony just get together after the bee sting (even though that situation was a bit ridiculous) and she didn't go behind her sister's back. Sisters would never!

6.In Romancing Mister Bridgerton, Colin is such a drag. I'm so salty that they're skipping Benedict and Sophie's story for Colin and Penelope's for season 3 of the show. In the book, Colin can’t handle Penelope being successful and everything is on his terms. INCLUDING announcing she is Lady Whistledown.

7.This one is fine. Obviously problematic because of that scene. I also wish there was more exploration for whether Simon actually wanted kids or if he just caved to Daphne. It IS okay to not want to have children and Daphne manipulated and villainized that over what was a misunderstanding. If spite for his father was the sole reason that Simon didn’t want children, then that is worth exploring to make sure he wasn’t keeping himself from something for himself. The book also tried to make Daphne seem plain and uninteresting which I did appreciate the show veering away from and showing the friendship between Daphne and Simon. The show did it better with this story I think mainly because of the chemistry between Rege Jean -Page and Pheobe Dynevor.

8.This story is bonkers. The first half is SO slow but then the last 100 pages is insane. It became very Jane the Virgin which is as high a compliment as you can get. I kept hearing this line in my head at every crazy turn:
