A Crown This Cold and Heavy

This is book 3 in Stacia Starks’ Kingdom of Lies series and I’m still loving it. Even though this book really hit hard with a certain death.

We finally get Prisca and Lorian to talk about how they’re mates. Finally! I loved the build up for the action that we’ll get to in the final book, as well as the side romances. I am on the edge of my seat for Asinia and Demos to get together, and Madinia and Calysian! Asinia and Demos are sweet so you root for them. But Madinia is basically Nesta Archeron and I love that. She’s literally and figuratively fire-y and I would love a whole series based on her.

The ending of book 3 was devastating. We all knew Lorian wouldn’t actually die and neither would Prisca, but her turning back time was so cool.

All in all, I really enjoyed this. I think what would keep me from loving it as much as the others is Cavis’s death. It was well done and it speaks to how well written and developed the series is that his death was so devastating. However, it took away from the fun I had with the first two. Cavis was such a sweet character and then the gang all coped in their own different ways, and then Prisca had that heartbreaking conversation with his surviving wife and finally held his daughter and then we had his funeral. I’m hoping the final book is mostly fun, fantasy action!
