War of Lost Hearts series

Why isn’t everyone talking about these?!

The War of Lost Hearts series by Carissa Broadbent is stunning. It is the best romantasy series I have ever read. Tisaanah was born a slave and was told by her slaveowner that if she earned 1,000 gold, she would be free. Her whole life, she works her ass off to save up that 1,000 gold. When she finally does, and gives it to her slaveowner, he is furious. He is angry with her for thinking she could actually leave and be free, and that he owns her. Without spoiling… let’s just say she fights back. And wants to remove slavery altogether. In her pursuit, she joins a resistance group to make justice and peace happen. Even after everything Tisaanah has endured, there are so many things that Tisaanah learns when it comes to the smoke and mirrors of seemingly altruistic figures.

Tisaanah is paired with Max, who is a bitter retired member of the group she had joined. Max is angry and sad and in daily pain due to what he has been through. Both Max and Tisaanah have been through tremendous trauma but find a path to healing and a way forward to bring change and justice to others.

As mentioned in a previous blog, Tisaanah seems to me like what Game of Thrones had envisioned for Daenerys at first, before they went and messed it all up! She is strong, fierce, compassionate, with a pure heart that is not hungry for power for her own ego.

Nura is also the epitome of chaotic… neutral?! But like, she thinks she’s good? I don’t even know. But she’s basically what Dany turned out to be. ‘I want a better world! By ANY means necessary! Seriously, don’t exclude genocide!’ Okay, girly. That’s not love or justice or okay, but okay.

Max is the best grumpy hero ever. He isn’t a borderline martyr in the same way that Tisaanah is, but he always does the right thing. Also, he and Sammerin’s friendship is everything. Give us a spin off series about Moth and Sammerin!
