Golden Son
If you love Dune and feel that’s the best sci-fi ever written and haven’t read this series yet, I would urge you to do so. Why this hasn’t hit the big screen yet is beyond me.
Everything I loved about book 1 was fine tuned and amplified in this. There were so many things I did not see coming in this. It reminds me a lot of Game of Thrones in the best ways. It’s got a love story, it’s got action, political scheming, BACKSTABBING! It’s got everything I’d ever want in a story.

From the reveal that Mustang is with Cassius to the reveal that Darrow has been training with Lorn to Darrow telling Mustang who he really was to that ending- I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I am having so much fun reading this and it also has its moving moments at the same time. Darrow coming to terms with acceptance that Eo wasn’t perfect and they were truly just kids when they were together but also loving what she was to him was beautiful. I am still rooting for he and Mustang but man her reaction to him letting her all the way in was rough. I get that she was in shock and was worried about her family and the way he told her was… pretty cringy. You couldn’t have just sat down with her and had a conversation?! You instead showed her the video of you being carved?! His conflict avoidance and reliance on video to communicate is so Gen Z. Darrow really doesn’t like nonviolent confrontation though.. not only with Mustang but his skirting around having a hard conversation with Roque got him in hot water in the end.
The reveal about Sevro being half red was unexpected and a great twist! I love that Sevro and Ares have their own personal reasons for the Rising outside of just believing in Darrow. The moment Servo accepts Darrow for being a Red without hesitation was beautiful. He’s giving Samwise Gamgee but make him crass. I hope Sevro gets the happy ending he deserves.
While I can’t believe I waited so long to finally read this series, I am really glad that I don’t have to wait to read book 3 after that INSANE cliffhanger in this one.
