Ash Turner is seeking revenge on a family that ruined his own by outing their illegitimacy and taking over their dukedom. Margaret is the sister of the men Ash is seeking revenge on and is ordered by her brothers to spy on Ash by going undercover as a nurse in his household. Ash is immediately drawn to Margaret and they form a bond when Ash confides in Margaret his shame regarding his illiteracy and what sounds like dyslexia. Margaret begins to read to Ash and they form a strong connection. Little by little Margaret learns that Ash is not seeking revenge completely out of hate but to also protect his own family. This is a sweet story that is beautifully written.

WOW! This was so good. I think it’s the best written regency romance I’ve ever read. It was my first book by Courtney Milan and now I want to read all of her books. Her style reminds me of Jane Austen in that not a lot happens in the story and it is really focused on the characters, but with a more contemporary spin. The MMC is the best I’ve come across, he is feminist and supportive. I was also super happy that the reveal of who Margaret really was. wasn’t a big conflict. He was extremely understanding of her circumstances and why she kept her identity from him. I also really liked Margaret. She never did anything that felt out of character and she was so forgiving of people who never deserved it. Can’t wait to read more Courtney Milan!
