Spark of the Everflame

I’ve had this series on my radar for a while. It’s got an almost perfect score on Goodreads and Fantasy Fangirls and Book Huddle have sang its praises. Penn Cole knows how to write action and suspense. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. The mystery surrounding the story is very well done. There were some things you can see coming but then you’re still surprised by how it’s not exactly as you expected.

Diem is an interesting FMC. She’s feisty and compassionate. It’s unique that she’s a trained healer instead of your typical warrior.

From the beginning, I was on the edge of my seat. There’s quite a bit of action, which I don’t normally care for (usually I’m mainly interested in the relationships) but this was an exception (as well as the masterpiece Kingdom of Ash- never forget).

I love the tension between Diem and Luther. You can see the whole time that he suspects they are mates and I kept waiting for that to be a reveal but then we get to the end of Diem is a queen! So, I’m sure that ties with her being mates with the prince but I 100% didn’t see that coming.

I also loved the suspense of her joining the rebel group and it seemed sketch and cultish, despite Henri’s assurance that it wasn’t. I kept waiting for that whole thing to blow up in her face but the way it all panned out was interesting.

I honestly have zero theories about what’s going on with Diem’s mom but the lady is shady AF. Now to devour book 2!
